CAST offers a variety of services including food, help with rent and utilities, GED classes, Smart Changes classes, school items for needy children, a gardening program for low-income families, the Saturday Fix-It Brigade, and gift baskets including food and presents at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. CAST accepts monetary donations, non-perishable food items that are not outdated, soap, paper products, and school supplies. During the summer months, CAST has specifically items for their Back To School Project. Many of these items can be found at your local dollar store. This includes: binders binder paper notebooks 2-pocket folders backpacks (for children aged 3-8; needs to be able to hold regular sized paper/notebooks) construction paper children’s lined paper (the ones with the dashed lines when learning how to print letters) The Back To School items need to be sent to CAST by the last week of July. There is a basket in the narthex marked CAST for you to put your donated items. Thank you for your support.
Sunday School Staff Needed
Rehoboth is currently seeking Sunday School teachers and a Sunday School Superintendent. If over the summer you feel you would like to join our Sunday School staff, please contact the church office or Pastor Eric. This summer the Sunday School teachers will meet with Pastor Eric to select a curriculum so that you will not have to invent your own lessons from scratch. Please think and pray about if God is calling you to take a leadership role in Rehoboth's mission of Christian Education for all ages. We are also looking for classroom helpers and substitutes we can call when our regular teachers are ill or unable to attend. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity over the summer months.
Bright Beginnings Preschool News

Bright Beginnings still has openings in all classes for Fall 2010 except the M-W-F morning class. Please call 724-869-9299 for more information during the summer months.
Email Updates

From time to time, church-related information is emailed to members from a list that is maintained through our website. If your email address has changed recently, please take a minute to send a quick note to Lorrie Kuny at lkuny@comcast.net to update our records so that you can receive future emails. If you have never received any church-related correspondence via the Internet and would like to, again simply send her a request. Likewise, if you’ve received emails, but prefer your name be removed, make it known and we’ll promptly honor your request. Thank you.
Graduation Sunday

Congratulations Graduates! We celebrated your milestone with Graduation Sunday on June 6th, 2010. High School: Sarah College: Lisa and Brianna Seminary: Dennis Congratulations to all of our graduates. Best of luck with all your future plans.
Rummage Sale

The Fellowship Committee is still planning to coordinate a Rummage Sale sometime this summer – probably in August. A specific date has yet to be decided. Please continue purging, saving, and storing your donations until that time. Information will be disseminated via weekly worship bulletins, the church website and by email. Two years ago, proceeds from a similar sale netted about $1,000. Any questions, contact Lorrie Kuny.
Timbering

During the past four weeks or so, a local timbering company began removing select trees from the southern portion of the church property. We anticipated this effort would take about two full weeks; however, the deluge of rain has periodically hampered their completion. The timbering efforts will serve Rehoboth in two ways. First, the additional cash is welcomed during the summer months when offerings decrease due to lack of attendance. Second, the company’s owner agreed (at no additional charge) to clear a large area and level off the dirt so that we can then seed it to use for a future children’s play area. Oftentimes, kids are found playing in the gravel parking area which most would agree is not a suitable, safe play area. Hopefully next year at this time, Rehoboth will resurrect a softball team similar to the one from a year ago! Any takers?
Bonfire and Weiner Roast
First Annual Bonfire and Weiner Roast
Great turnout for our very first bonfire and weiner roast on Friday evening, June 18th, 2010 using the new picnic pavilion and fire pit. About 40 people came to kick back, relax, roast hot dogs and later s’mores well into the evening hours. The kids took advantage of hanging out nearby on the playground equipment, while Dennis and Sam entertained us while playing their guitars. A number of folks expressed their appreciation by asking if Fellowship plans to host another one -- the answer is definitely yes, probably sometime in August.
Vacation Bible School 2010
 | Dates: June 21 - June 25 Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM 2010 VBS Coordinators: Dennis & Julie Whalen and Leslie & Chip DuPont |
Vacation Bible School 2010: On June 21st through June 25th, 2010 Rehoboth along with Concord Presbyterian hosted Vacation Bible School. Here at Rehoboth, we anticipated our building expansion project to be in full swing during the summer and because of safety issues with children being near a construction site, we decided to team up with our friendly Christian neighboring church, Concord Presbyterian. So we combined our talents with Concord and they hosted VBS at their location which is just down the road from Rehoboth. This year’s VBS theme was Egypt: Joseph’s Journey from Prison to Palace from Group Publishing. We anticipated the experience to be huge and very exciting, but were still surprised at a total of 125 participants who registered for this event! We divided all the children into 10 different Egyptian families whose leaders wore a white tunic and colored Egyptian collar with the members of their family wearing matching colored sashes. The children found various ways to wear their sashes such as a belt, a headband, an armband, or a legband. We had 3 preschool groups (Giza, Asyut, and Memphis), 4 kindergarten & first grade groups (Sais, Pithom, Zoan, and Amarna) , 1 second grade group (Per Bastet), 1 third and fourth grade group (Rosetta), and 1 fifth and sixth grade group (Medinet El Fayum). Each family had “family time” twice each night where our leaders taught the children about the bible point and bible story and interacted with the children on how it affects them in their daily lives. A tasty snack was delivered to each family during family time with the help of Michelle Judt and Dale Alsing. Our opening/closing team spent time at the beginning and ending of each evening sharing the bible point, bible verse, and multiple praise songs all surrounding the story of Joseph. We learned that God gives us HOPE, SPECIAL ABILITIES, WISDOM, FORGIVENESS, and A FAMILY. Stacey and Chele from Concord did a great job teaching the kids the songs and motions, interacting with the kids, and having each family recall their daily God sightings as well as make up their own family cheer. In story time, Joseph (portrayed by Dennis Whalen) told the children of his life in Egypt. He told them of his interpretation of dreams in prison (Genesis 40:1-23), how Pharoah put him in charge (Genesis 41:1-40), how he lead Egypt through the famine (Genesis 41:41-42.5), how he forgave his brothers (Genesis 42:6-45:15), and how he settled his family in Egypt (Genesis 45:16-47:27). His guard, Rameses (portrayed by Darrion Clouse) also interacted with the kids each night and helped to tell Joseph’s story. Joseph really got the kids’ attention when he transformed from a dirty hairy prisoner on Day 1 to a clean-cut, shaven, gold-adorned leader – second in command only to Pharoah. In lieu of a science station, a craft station, and a music/rhythm time, this year we hosted a marketplace. Each day two to four booths were setup for the children to visit each day. Various booths manned by talented volunteers included: barbershop & salon, toy shop, brickmaking (hosted by Don Ayers), embalmer’s workshop (hosted by Don Ayers), jewelry shop, linen shop, hieroglyphic artist’s shop, basket weaver’s shop, animal courtyard (hosted in part by Jim Hoffman and his beehive), and food shop (hosted by Pastor Eric). Many adult and teen helpers assisted in getting all the children through the booths each night. Pyramid Playground (Games) was hosted each night by Chip DuPont and Julian Whalen with some help from Sam Goncz. They wrapped each other up in toilet paper, lassoed stuffed animals, tried to pick up slippery watermelons, played Egyptian tug-of-war, and tried to balance sponges on their heads! This year’s mission project supported CAST (Churches Are Serving Together) and 2 local food pantries. We collected approximately $350 to be given to CAST and we collected boxes of cereal and jars of peanut butter which will be split between The Ladle in Ambridge and the We Care Food Pantry in Baden. Our success greatly depends on the vast number of volunteers who gave so willingly of their time and talents to not only nurture these children but to help spread God’s word. Thank you so much to each and every volunteer for helping to make our outreach ministry event such a phenomenal success again this year!

Cemetery News
Most cemeteries in our area are maintained with "hired help". For the most part Rehoboth Cemetery is maintained by volunteers. We pay to have our grass cut, but everything else is done by the "good guys" of the Cemetery Association. Last week the entire cemetery was "trimmed" by "three good guys". After they finished with the grass they even trimmed the blue spruces. Have you had time to check out the new pathway? It’s not a road but a guide around the newer section of the cemetery. It's mainly for guiding heavy vehicles that are involved in excavation or monument setting jobs. Does that mean you can't drive your car on it? You can, but with caution. Since part of your car will be on the grass, be very careful when it's wet. I don't want a cell phone call that you're stuck! We'll place rods in the ground that will show you side limits. We have our water barrel in place. It's near the maintenance shed. It's leaking and may be empty when you go to use it! Obviously, we have some changes to make in its design. The "sunken road" is not sunken anymore! We plan to let it stay "as is" for the summer and seed it in the fall. We are planning to open a few new sites between the pathway and the road. The cost will be $300 per site, and $1100 for a family (4) plot. Our cremation plots are $150. (All prices are doubled for non- church members). I'd be glad to show you what is available, call me at 724-869-3837.
Building Expansion Update May-2010
July 2010 Stewardship News - Building Expansion The Finance Committee received three proposals -- Mission Investment Fund (financial ministry of the ELCA), ESB Bank and First National Bank – for Rehoboth’s building expansion project. Although MIF’s proposal was not enough to complete the overall scope, ESB and FNB exceeded the amount we initially requested. We are in the process of evaluating the latter two proposals to determine which would best fit our interest. Therefore, we anticipate finalizing our decision by early July and entering into an agreement with one lender before proceeding with construction.
