We continually collect food donations for CAST (Churches Are Serving Together). These are non-perishable items that are not opened or out-dated. The following items are needed all the time: canned meat (ham, salmon, spam, chicken), jelly, and canned fruit. Also accepted are laundry and cleaning supplies and personal products such as soap, shampoo, and toothpaste. There is a basket located in the narthex.
The Mission:Action ladies also accept sheets, blankets and layette items any time of the year. They have been sewing and assembling quilts for many years. Look for the Mission:Action basket.
Rehoboth also supports the Yellow Ribbon Girls. This organization sends “treats” to our service men and women serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. Each month a different snack is requested. See the bulletin or newsletter for details.
Donna DuPont continues to collect aluminum cans for our Senegal missionary friends. The cans are recycled and the money collect is used for children’s immunizations.
We will begin to collect and recycle used cell phones to be donated to the Women’s Center of Beaver County.
We are continuing to increase awareness of a program utilizing GoodSearch ( www.goodsearch.com ) which is a search engine on the Internet. Each time someone goes to this website and uses their search engine (powered by Yahoo), they donate about a penny per search to a charity the user designates. We recommended supporting one of the following charities: Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Disaster Response, The One Campaign, Heifer International, Habitat for Humanity (Pittsburgh branch), Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or even our very own Rehoboth Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 2008, Rehoboth earned $11.50 from 941 searches. Now with their new option of GoodShop (www.goodshop.com) Rehoboth earned $1.49 in 2008. Even pennies can add up to make a difference.
Thanks to the many people who so willingly give to our mission projects. We are making a difference.
