Students who are currently in the 4th grade are eligible to begin serving as an acolyte, meaning companion, helper or attendant, during our worship services. Typically, two students volunteer to light the candles on the altar and adjacent candleabras (floor stands with multiple candles on each). Each fall, prior to the start of the school year, new acolytes are required to participate in a formal training program which provides instruction as to the responsibilities and expectations of an acolyte. Students also receive a copy of The Acolyte's Book, a basic guide for the church acolyte. |
