COUNCIL MINUTES
May 6, 2007


MEMBERS PRESENT:  Tom Kuny, Pres.; Gil Baker, Donna DuPont, Carol Nicoletti, Bill Slingluff, Pastor Scott and Debbie Jasinski, Treasurer
 
ABSENT:  Allan Berenbrok, V. Pres.; Dee Phillips and Karen Szatkiewicz

Opening Devotions – Carol opened the meeting with prayer.  Royce is responsible for devotions at the June meeting.

Correspondence and Requests – A letter was received from the Economy Vol. Fire Dept. requesting a donation.  Royce made a motion to give $30.00.  Seconded.  Motion carried.

Secretary’s Report
- Bill made a motion to accept the Secretary’s report.  Seconded.  Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report
- Debbie reviewed the Treasurer’s Report.  Discussion was held regarding the Easter offerings.  The deficit was made up except for $100.  We were breaking even at the end of April.
- Benevolence was sent to synod for the first three months.
- Habitat for Humanity offerings and donations were sent.
- No questions.  Report will be filed for audit.

Pastor’s Report
- Pastor reported that Rev. Roeser, Christ & Our Savior’s Lutheran, has moved to a new parish.
- Pastor commented on the HIPAA laws in regards to members of our congregation who are in the hospital.  Pastor will put an article in the newsletter informing members of the HIPPA laws for patients in the hospital.
- Pastor also informed council that Synod has requested the churches look at their stewardship use of gasoline in response to meetings.

Committee Reports
 Property
- Door Bell for Pastor’s Office and Secretary’s Office
- It is necessary to purchase new mechanisms.  Tom will purchase them.

New Locks for All Outside Doors
- Bill will take care of this.

Doors
- Discussion was held regarding the purchase of new doors.  No conclusion was reached.

Parking Lot
- A workday was set for Saturday, June 2nd beginning at 8:30 a.m.  Tom reminded the Property Committee that Thrivent has given us $650 up front for the driveway repair and another $650 when the job is completed.

Kitchen Wiring
Tom reported that the outlets are still not operable.


Bright Beginnings
- Carol would like to recruit two-three new members with a business focus to crunch numbers for the BB Board. 

Mission
- Donna asked about the Youth Group and the Book Donation Challenge from Cheerios and Eric Carle.  PA is still in 12th place.  The top five states will receive 20,000 copies of The Tiny Seed to be given to Title One Classes and the underprivileged.  The deadline is in June.

Unfinished Business
Temple Talk
- Tom will give a “Temple Talk” regarding the State of the Union on Sunday, May 20th during announcements.

“Simple Giving”
- Discussion was held regarding the process of confidentiality.  Debbie reported they are working on this process.

Pastor Newpher
- Tom reported that Gil, Carol, Bill, Royce, Donna and himself met with Pastor Newpher regarding procedures to move forward with a church expansion.  Pastor Newpher gave three options for contacts/procedures.  Tom contacted Albert Zimmerman to meet with Pastor and himself.  Albert requested to met with Tom only on a date to be set this month.

Building/Construction Information Obtained from Other Churches
- Carol presented a very informative typed report to council.  She stressed that it is very important to communicate with ALL committees and members of the church.  She commented that we should not underestimate the number of meetings with the congregation. 

Tables for Handbells
- Tom presented a drawing for the tables, which will be attached to the pew frontals.  Pam contacted the family who donated the tables, which hold the trays for the wine glasses on communion Sunday.  The family requested that the tables be placed for use in the church.  Steffen Drees is making the bell tables and will install both sets of tables.

 New Pictorial Directory
- Yvonne Humprey has contacted 90% of the congregation at this time.  Every thing seems to be in good order.

Boy Scout Eagle Projects
- Nothing to report

Next Meeting
- Council will meet on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.
