COUNCIL MINUTES
March 11, 2007
MEMBERS PRESENT: Tom Kuny, Pres.; Gil Baker, Donna DuPont, Carol Nicoletti, Dee Phillips, Karen Szatkiewicz, Royce Wilhem, Pastor Scott and Debbie Jasinski, Treasurer
EXCUSED ABSENCE: Allan Berenbrok, V. Pres., Bill Slingluff
Opening Devotions – Royce led opening devotions, “Know the Lord Is God.” Donna is responsible for devotions at the April meeting.
Correspondence and Requests – Tom reported that a letter was received from Rev. Newpher at the synod office stating that they did not receive our Benevolence commitment for 2007. Tom will contact synod.
Secretary’s Report
- The date for the Semi-annual Congregational meeting should be Nov. 26. Royce made a motion to accept the minutes with correction. Seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
- Debbie reviewed the Treasurer’s Report. Discussion was held regarding the February offerings being low. However, weather was bad and attendance was low.
- A separate bill for the Yellow Pages is now being received. IDRCMedia is their new
billing/collection service. - Debbie will do a cut and paste report and send to Leigh for the newsletter.
- No questions. Report will be filed for audit.
- Simple Giving – Debbie reported on the Simple Giving contributions for the church through Thrivent. Debbie has the necessary forms for the church to complete in order to participate.
- Discussion was held on implementing an Endowment Fund. Debbie reported that the following books need to be audited: Women of the ELCA, Youth Group and the Investment Funds. Memorial, Cemetery and Sunday School are done.
Pastor’s Report
- The Mission Committee is coming up with ideas to implement within the church. The monies received from the Pastor’s Breakfast were given to the Mission Committee to use for Fair Trade.
- Bishop McCoid will be retiring this year. A new bishop will be elected at the Synod Convention in June. On July 28th, a reception will be held at Thiel College for Bishop McCoid,
- The new bishop will assume office on October 20th.
Committee Reports
Property
- Door Bell for Bright Beginnings & Molding in Nave
Gil will install. - Parking Lot
Craig Wicks is checking on the cost for tar and chip of the lower parking lot. Tom reported that $650 is in place from Thrivent. When the work is completed, we will receive another $650. - Kitchen Wiring
Tom reported that the outlets are still not operable. - Bright Beginnings
Pastor asked that BB be informed that people are parking in the upper circle where the No Parking signs are posted. Please observe the signs. - Ladies Rest Room
Dee questioned the odor in the rest room. Tom will talk with the janitor in regards to putting water in the trap.
Unfinished Business
Evangelism Handouts
- Dee mailed out several brochures to new families in the community. She will continue to do mailings.
Greeting Cards to Members
- Karen volunteered to mail the get well and sympathy cards. Donna will contact Karen and Pastor when she is aware of member’s concerns/needs.
New Business
New Pictorial Directory
- Yvonne Humprey volunteered to chair this project. Yvonne attended the meeting and presented the following:
- Olan Mills has been selected as the choice of photography companies offering directories.
- Dates for photographing:
Friday, May 11 from 3:00-9:30 pm
Saturday, May 12 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm - Olan Mills will gift a picture of the congregational members in the form of a mosaic stain glass window to the church.
- Free publicity cards for the church
- Plus, extra pages for pictures of activities
- An article will be in the newsletter
- Pastor will inform Leigh that a sign-up sheet will need to be posted in the narthex.
Delegates for Synod Convention
- Tom made a motion to send Sam and Heather to the Synod Convention at Thiel College in Greenville in June. Seconded. Motion carried.
Easter Sunrise Breakfast
- Pastor suggested that we make egg casseroles (9x13 pans), muffins, hot cross buns, orange juice, coffee and tea.
- Pastor volunteered to do the shopping.
- Royce will organize recipes. \
- Carol, Tom and Karen each volunteered to make two casseroles. Dee, Donna, Gil, Royce, and Bill will each make one.
- Set-up will follow the Maundy Thursday evening worship service.
Boy Scout Eagle Projects
- Tabled until April meeting.
Motion to Adjourn – Carol made a motion to adjourn. Seconded. Motion carried
Next Meeting
- Council will meet after worship service on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 12:30 p.m.
