COUNCIL MINUTES
Sunday, June 24, 2007
MEMBERS PRESENT: Tom Kuny, Pres.; Gil Baker, Donna DuPont, Carol Nicoletti, Bill Slingluff and Pastor Scott. Debbie Jasinski, Treasurer
ABSENT: Allan Berenbrok, V. Pres.; Dee Phillips, Karen Szatkiewicz and Debbie Jasinski, Treasurer
Opening Devotions – Royce opened the meeting with devotions from Matt. 12: 41-44. Gil is responsible for devotions at the August meeting.
Correspondence and Requests – None
Secretary’s Report
- Royce made a motion to accept the Secretary’s report. Seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
- Tom reviewed the Treasurer’s Report in Debbie’s absence.
- Summer slump has set in. Lower attendance at worship.
- No questions. Report will be filed for audit.
Pastor’s Report
- Pastor gave an oral report,
- He thanked council for changing the meeting date due to the SWPA Synodical Convention that was held at Thiel College.
- Pastor reported that a new Bishop was elected for our synod. The Rev. Kurt Kusserow from St. Paul’s Lutheran in Latrobe, has been elected. He will assume the duties in October. A farewell, retirement gathering will be held for Bishop Donald McCoid in July.
- Pastor will perform a funeral service for Rev. Martin Galbraith from New Hope, who is out of town.
- Pastor Newpher spoke with Pastor Scott regarding a meeting with Mr. Zimmerman to discuss church expansion plans. Mr. Zimmerman only wants to meet with Pastor at this time.
Committee Reports
Property
- A workday was set for Saturday, July 14 to cut down the Trees from Heaven (Sumac) and do some outside maintance. Bill will purchase doughnuts and put the coffee on. Tom said to see Lorrie Kuny and Lori Shoup regarding the outdoor gardening.
- Parking Lot
- Tom reminded Council that Thrivent has given us $650 up front for the driveway repair and another $650 when the job is completed. This needs to be acted upon ASAP.
- Kitchen Wiring
Royce commented that the outlets are still not operable. Tom and Bill will meet at the church and take a look at them.
- Gil requested a place to file the Property maintance manuals and documents. Donna gave him a drawer in the Senior Choir filing cabinet in the balcony.
- Playground Maintance
Gil reported that the Boy Scouts took care of this. The questioned was presented regarding the safety of the bolts…Were they checked? Property is to find out!
Bright Beginnings
- Carol recruited Eileen Ford and Stacy Hicks to serve on the BB Board. Council voted unanimously to accept the two new members on the board.
Music & Worship
- The Welcome flier that was completed looks great, however, some of them need trimmed a little smaller to fit in the pew racks. Pastor said he would take care of this. Due to the age and performance of the present paper cutter, Pastor will purchase a new one for the church.
Unfinished Business
- Pastor Scott commented on the generous amount of giving from the congregation with the Mission requests (i.e. Penfield Shower, Heifer Project, VBS, CAST, Soldiers in Iraq).
Thrivent
- Pastor reported that Thrivent would be accepting Associate Members for a small fee. Pastor is hoping for all members of committees will become members. This will assist Rehoboth in receiving funding. Tom will contact Roger Steiner for appropriate forms.
Next Meeting
- Council will meet on Sunday, August 12, 2007 following the 9:30 a.m. service.
Motion to Adjourn – Bill made a motion to adjourn. Seconded. Motion carried. Meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
