Council Minutes
Tuesday, July 21, 2009
Members Present: Donna DuPont, Tom Kuny, Carol Nicoletti, Dee Phillips, Pastor Eric Reimer, Bill Slingluff , Karen Szatkiewicz, and Royce Wilhelm.
Absent: Gil Baker, Rob Hicks and Debbie Jasinski
Opening Devotions:
Bill Slingluff led the devotions. Pastor Eric Reimer will lead the devotions in September.
Secretary’s Report:
Karen Szatkiewicz made a motion to accept the June 16, 2009, Secretary’s Report. Seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report:
Council members reviewed the June 2009 report. Filed for audit.
Carol Nicoletti distributed the January 1 – June 30, 2009 breakdown of giving for current, building and benevolence and the weekly worship attendance.
Pastor’s Report:
Pastor Eric is getting settled and becoming familiar with the congregation. Pastor Eric and Pastor Camberg are going together to visit the shut-ins this month.
Committee Reports
Property: Bill Slingluff
• They are finishing the installation of the steel doors.
• Bill Slingluff and Royce Wilhelm painted the Pastor’s office and Carol Nicoletti and Donna DuPont did the cleaning.
Bright Beginnings
• The retirement reception for Betsy Woodling is Sunday, August 26, 2009. Action: Royce made a motion to purchase a gift subscription to the CLO for approximately $300 as recognition of her 17 years service as a gift from the congregation. This would cover three shows for two people. Seconded. Motion carried.
• Cathy Long was unanimously approved and recommended to Council by the Bright Beginnings Board to be hired as the new director. Mrs. Long will be interviewed by Pastor Eric Reimer, Donna DuPont and Tom Kuny. Action: Royce made a motion to accept Cathy Long’s recommendation as Director of Bright Beginnings contingent upon a favorable interview with Pastor, Tom and Donna. Seconded. Motion carried.
New Business:
Stewardship: Carol Nicoletti
Work is beginning on the building stewardship drive. The committee will have its first meeting on Sunday, August 2, 2009 after church.
Laptop
The computer in the Pastor’s office is old, outdated, and doesn’t work well. Action: Bill Slingluff made a motion to purchase a laptop for Pastor’s office spending up to $1,000. Seconded. Motion carried.
Mutual Ministry
Lori Shoup and Rob Hicks are ending their two-year term on the Mutual Ministry Committee. They have the option to hold the position for an additional two-year term. Tom Kuny will contact them.
Pastor Bish’s Retirement
Pastor Bish’s Retirement Reception is being held at Lutherlyn on August 15, 2009 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Everyone is asked to either take a card or send one.
Land Lease
Sylvan Energy has offered to lease our 52 acres for potential gas drilling. They have the drilling rights to the borough building land and the Sportsman Club land. Sylvan Energy would guarantee $10 per acre per year - $520 - for five years. If they drill, the congregation would receive 200Mcf/year natural gas and 12½ % of the gross amount of gas royalties. Tom Kuny reviewed with Scott Shoup. Scott is in favor of the lease. Tom will have Sam Goncz review the lease. Action: Donna DuPont made a motion to enter into the land lease with Sylvan Energy contingent upon the favorable review of the contract by Sam Gontz. Seconded. Motion carried.

Donna DuPont made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Seconded. Motion carried. Meeting ended with the Lord’s Prayer.
