COUNCIL MINUTES
Tuesday, December 19, 2006
MEMBERS PRESENT: Tom Kuny, Pres.; Allan Berenbrok, V. Pres.; Gil Baker, Jack Dewar, Donna DuPont, Katie Mercadante, Carol Nicoletti, Dee Phillips, Bill Slingluff, Royce Wilhem, Pastor Scott.
ABSENT: Katie Mercadante, and Debbie Jasinski, Treasurer
Opening Devotions – Bill led opening devotions highlighting a lesson on Love and Generosity. Dee is responsible for devotions at the February meeting.
Correspondence and Requests – Tom gave Debbie a correspondence from The Beaver County Times. Also, Tom received a letter addressed to Pastor Scott and himself from Elise Mercadante regarding her resignation as the person responsible for ordering flowers. Tom reported that Leigh Browning, Sec. will assume this responsibility. Katie will send a thank you to Ellise.
Secretary’s Report
- Carol made a motion to accept the secretary’s report from the November 2006 meeting with the following addition: Bright Beginnings requested a doorbell be installed at the outside entrance to the Fellowship. Seconded. Motion carried. Tom informed council that an intercom would be installed for better security before opening the door.
Treasurer’s Report
- Handouts were received and reviewed.
- Mileage for 2007 for Pastor will be 48.5 cents.
- Youth Group was paid for Janitorial services from July 1-Nov. 30th. $1,500 was put in their savings account. Pastor reported that the Youth who worked the babysitting day gave their donations to purchase gifts for the victims of the New Castle fire and ???? MN.
- The Treasurer’s report will be filed for audit.
Budget for 2007
- Music & Worship figure for 2007 is to be raised $200.
- Fellowship figure will stand at $2,000.
- Discussion was held regarding the motion from Sam Goncz to reconsider Pastor Scott’s Compensation package to bring it in line with Synod guidelines. (Pastor Scott left the room.) After much discussion and explanations, Carol made a motion that a “Good Faith” raise of 2% to help compensate for the raise Pastor refused in 2005 due to financial within the church, plus the 4.1% recommended by Synod. Seconded. Motion carried. (Total raise would be 6.1%.)
Pastor’s Report
- See attached.
- Pastor asked that council keep Tina Stilio, Jeff Gross’ mother-in-law, in their prayers. She was injured in a freak accident and is in the hospital. Pastor Scott’s niece, Rachel, witnessed the accident.
Committee Reports
Property – Gil
Janitor Service
- Gil is to check on the new janitor regarding what they are cleaning and who is doing the work. The Fellowship classroom floor had not been cleaned.
Bright Beginnings (BB) – Carol
- Carol reported that BB would like to hire someone to clean the rest rooms on Sunday evening or early Monday morning before class starts. They would pay $25.00 a week from their budget. Missy Steines is a possible person for the job. Jack made a motion that BB proceed with hiring someone to clean the rest rooms. Motion carried.
Property – Bill
-Bill reported the generator is now running, however, the battery has a problem.
Point of Interest
- Jack announced that people are leaving lights on in the church.
Unfinished Business
- Congregational meeting is set for January 28, 2007.
New Business
- Katie commented that her three-year term would expire in January. Katie has been responsible for sending sympathy and thank you cards to congregational members. This will be addressed at the February council meeting.
Motion to Adjourn – Katie made a motion to adjourn. Seconded. Motion carried
Next Meeting
- Council will meet after worship service on January 21, 2007 to make final preparations for the annual meeting.
