COUNCIL MINUTES
Sunday, April 15, 2007


MEMBERS PRESENT:  Tom Kuny, Pres.; Donna DuPont, Carol Nicoletti, Dee Phillips, Bill Slingluff and Pastor Scott

EXCUSED ABSENCE:  Allan Berenbrok, V. Pres., Gil Baker, Karen Szatkiewicz, Royce Wilhem, and Debbie Jasinski, Treasurer

Opening Devotions – Donna led opening devotions, “Freely Give.”  Carol is responsible for devotions at the May meeting.

Correspondence and Requests – Nothing to report.

Secretary’s Report
- Carol made a motion to accept the minutes. Seconded.  Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report
In Debbie’s absence, Tom reviewed the Treasurer’s Report.  Discussion was held.
- Report will be filed for audit.

Pastor’s Report
- Pastor gave Karen the cards to send out for the shut-ins.
- Mid-week Lenten services were discussed between Pastor Scott and Pastor Brady of Concord regarding the attendance and the stewardship of time.  They discussed the possibility of combining with other churches in the area as they are experiencing the same challenges we are having.
- Flowers were sent to Leigh Browing, Secretary, upon the death of her father.
- Ray Penfield, brother of Joe Penfield – The Mission Committee is planning on holding “A Shower of Blessings” for Ray and his family.  Their home and all of the contents were destroyed in a fire.  The goal is register with Target, Wal-Mart, etc. so congregational members can purchase an item or a gift card to help them refurnish their home.  Lori Shoup is looking into matching funds from Thrivent.  Pastor will talk with Julie Slingluff regarding a monetary gift from Wal-Mart.  Lorrie Kuny is coordinating meals for the family.
- Bill made a motion to accept the report.  Seconded.  Motion carried.

Committee Reports
 Property
- Door Bell for Bright Beginnings, generator, carpets and molding in nave has been taken care of.

Parking Lot
Tom reported that Scott Shoup is getting a name for Tom in regards to tar and chipping the parking lot.

- Kitchen Wiring
Tom reported that the outlets are still not operable.

Clean Up Day
Bill will get in touch with Gil and Royce to set a clean up day for the church and outside work.

- Roof
It is apparent that the church roof is leaking.  Also, the ridge cap is bent.

Ants in the Kitchen
Pastor Scott reported that he contacted Applied Pest Management (APM) in Beaver regarding a bid for maintence and procedures.  The owner has 18yrs. experience and has owned the company for 5 years.  He will:  eliminate the flies, ants and lady bugs; do monthly spraying of the exterior of the church and the interior as required.  He also has a smoke bomb the leaves no residual.  The playground is included in the bid.  We are currently paying $38.00 a month to Leaf Pest Control.  APM’s bid is $55.00 per month and the contract can be broken at any time.  Bill made a motion to contract with Applied Pest Management.  Seconded.  Motion carried.

- Door Bells
Pastor Scott commented that the Secretary’s office and Pastor’s office could both use doorbells.

- Door Locks
Bill will research the possibility of getting new locks that extra keys can only be made by the company.  There are too many keys that are not accounted for. 

Mission
- Donna reported that Cheerios and author, Eric Carle have set-up a website www.firstbook.org to donate 20,000 copies of The Tiny Seed to the five states with the most votes. (100,000 books will be donated.)  As of this meeting, PA was in 11th place.  Pastor Scott commented that this would be a good challenge for the youth.  The books will go to schools with Title One and underprivileged children.

Unfinished Business
Sunrise Breakfast
- Awesome!  Continue with the same type of menu – egg casseroles, hash potato casserole, hot cross buns, coffee, tea and orange juice.  For those who cannot eat eggs, make a casserole with eggbeaters and make a potato casserole without onions.

Website
- Great!  Dennis and Julie Whalen and Lorrie Kuny have done a SUPER job!

Acreage
- Scott Shoup is getting information regarding the layout of the property.

Eagle Scout Projects
- Nothing to report

Committee Reps.
- Tom will e-mail all council members to remind them to contact the members of the committees they are assigned too.

New Business
Meeting with Pastor Newpher from Synod
- Pastor Newpher was contacted by Tom to talk with Council regarding the procedure to move forward with the addition to the church.  Pastor Newpher will be at the church on Tuesday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m.  Tom will send an e-mail to inform council members.

Congregational Meeting
- A congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, May 20 following the worship service.  Tom will present a State of the Union.

Motion to Adjourn – Dee made a motion to adjourn.  Seconded.  Motion carried

Next Meeting
- Council will meet after worship service on Sunday, May 6, 2007 at 12:30 p.m.
