COUNCIL MINUTES
Tuesday, April 8, 2008

MEMBERS PRESENT:  Gil Baker, Donna DuPont, Rob Hicks, Tom Kuny, Carol Nicoletti, Dee Phillips, Bill Slingluff, Karen Szatkiewicz and Royce Wilhelm.   Debbie Jasinski, Treas.

The Rev. Lawrence Camberg, Interim pastor, was in attendance.

Opening Devotions – Pastor Camberg presented the opening devotions.  Rob will lead the devotions for April.

Secretary’s Report – Bill made a motion to accept the Secretary’s Report.  Seconded.  Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report – Debbie Jasinski
- Utilities have come out on the targeted amount.
- A second payment has been made to RSSC Architecture
- Benevolence has been sent out for this quarter.  Pastor Bish requested that we send the money monthly.
- Debbie is awaiting the final invoice/refund from the Board of Pensions.
- Debbie reported that we have approx. $1,100 in the Memorial Fund.
- Debbie will pay Leigh for one week’s vacation (15 hrs.) for the week of April 20.
- Our giving is still up.
- The report will be filed for audit.

Pastor’s Report – Pastor Camberg asked council what his responsibilities are.  Pastor Camberg explained the matter in which he would like compensated for services rendered.  We would treat the weekend as a supply pastor ($100.00); for 20 hrs. of service a month ($350), plus mileage for ½ the time of his driving.  Discussion was held.  This is a very generous gift of his time, talents and finances to Rehoboth.  Bill made a motion to accept Pastor Camberg’s proposal.  Seconded.  Motion carried.

- The following shut-ins were given to the Pastor:
- Georgene Barto – Elmcroft in Chippewa
- Florence Weigle – Beaver Meadows – Brighton Heights.
- Virginia Hartling – Passavant  Health Center – Zelienople
- Betty Sanders
- John Wanchik
- Wilma Meddock
- Jim Shaddock

- A Thrivent workshop will be held on Saturday, April 26 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, New Sewickley at 9:30 am,

- Pastor Bish contacted Pastor Camberg regarding the baptism of Bradon Michael Williams, son of Ashley Souse on Sunday, April 27th.  Ashely, her mother, Janice Slage-Bruno; and her grandmother, Jean Miller all desire to become members of Rehoboth at that time.  They are all members of a Lutheran congregation.  Pastor Camberg will meet with the family.

- Pastor Camberg shared his list of his Christian Education Collection of Videos and Bible Studies.  He is willing to lend or donate these items to interested persons.

- The exterminator made the first application around the church today.

Unfinished Business
Building Expansion
– Royce Wilhelm
- Royce gave handouts of the building expansion to council.  Royce walked us through the drawings explaining the immediate needs and the design for future expansion.  Council unanimously expressed their support of the design RSSC architects and the committee have presented.
- A congregational meeting has been set for May 18th following the worship service to present handouts to the congregation.  Carol and volunteered to make copies of the design for each family to peruse.

New Business
Wish List
- Tom informed council that an additional Bible study be offered besides the Sunday morning class.  Dennis Whalen has agreed to present future Bible studies as suggested on the Wish List.  Carol made a motion to have Dennis pursue the class.  Seconded.  Motion carried.

Confirmation
- Confirmation will be held on Pentecost Sunday, May 12th.

Place Settings in the Kitchen
- Gil commented that he has received an offer of 150 place settings to be donated to the church.  Discussion was held regarding a comment that was made a 55+ meeting.  An antique dealer from New Brighton  said that our kitchen dishes were valuable and we may want to sell them.  Rob made a motion to have Bill check with 55+ to secure the name of the dealer and check out the possibility of proceeding with a sale.  Seconded.  Motion carried.

Adjourn – Royce made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Seconded.  Motion carried.

FOR THE PURPOSE OF SELECTING A CALL COMMITTEE

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

MEMBERS PRESENT:  Gil Baker, Donna DuPont, Rob Hicks, Tom Kuny, Carol Nicoletti, Dee Phillips, Bill Slingluff, Karen Szatkiewicz and Royce Wilhelm.

Donna opened the meeting with prayer for guidance, wisdom and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

The guidelines council received from Pastor Bish dictated the format of the meeting. 

After discussion regarding a youth to be selected to the committee, Royce made a motion that all adults be selected for the Call Committee.  Seconded.  Motion carried.  One nay – Donna.

The Council’s duty was to select a total of six persons, which included one council member. 

Approximately thirty-six names were presented.  The top twelve were selected including one council member.  Rob Hicks was selected as the council rep.  The first five nominees were:  Heather Goncz, Cindy Morris, Dennis Whalen, Ruth Slingluff and Metro (Butch) Zatchey. 

Alternates, should any of the above five decline, are as follows (in order):  Norman Amsler, Bruce Peck, Jr., Mike Szatkiewicz, Tom Kelly, Julie Whalen and Lorrie Kuny.

Bill made a motion to accept the nominations.  Seconded.  Motion carried.

A congregational meeting to accept the Call Committee was set for Sunday,
May 4 following the worship service.
