Bible Bowl 2010

Details on the 2010 Bible Bowl where our youth competed on their knowledge on the book of 1 Samuel are in! We had 15 youth on our Bible Bowl team. First round on Sunday - February 28, 2010 3:00 PM New Hope Lutheran Church in Freedom Regional Bible Bowl on Sunday - March 7, 2010 3:00 PM Perry Highway Lutheran Church in Wexford Super Bible Bowl on Sunday - March 21, 2010 Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Monroeville Study sessions were held on Sundays in January and February and into March as necessary following the worship service. Mr. Scott Shoup and Heidi Hartge were the leaders. Bible Bowl Youth vs. Adults The Rehoboth youth have been studying the book of 1 Samuel for their Bible Bowl competition. They went on a head-to-head competition against the adults who have prepared questions for them. Heidi Hartge, questionnaire extraordinaire, lead the group with Pastor Eric, Chip and Royce as our officials. Our youth team came out on top! Good Job to everyone! Local Bible Bowl Results From Pastor Eric: I am a very proud pastor right now. I want to share with you the results of the local Bible Bowl held at New Hope Lutheran Church yesterday. Our youth did very well, and entered the final round of competition four points behind the team from New Hope. New Hope had a very strong team, if my memory is correct they only missed one or two questions in the first two rounds. Our team needed to do very well in the final round to advance to regionals, and they did better then any other team getting four out of the six possible points. That put them in a tie with New Hope for first place and both teams advanced to regionals next week. The 2010 Bible Bowl First place trophy is on display in the narthex and our youth will compete in the regional competition at Perry Highway Lutheran Church in Wexford Sunday March 7 at 3:00pm. We had a large group of folks from Rehoboth at New Hope to support the Bible Bowl team and I hope we can give them another large cheering section on Sunday. The Bible Bowl team worked very hard and did a great job we should all be very proud of them. Congratulations to everyone on the team and I can't wait for Sunday. Heidi and Mr. Shoup would like to congratulate the Bible Bowl participants! What an awesome job everyone did. Our next round will be held this Sunday March 7th at 3:00 at Perry Highway Lutheran Church on route 19 in Wexford. Winning at any level has shown your dedication and hard work. All of us have learned and benefited from studying 1 Samuel. Even if we happen to not advance any further, we have won by expanding our knowledge! Bible Bowl 2009

This year’s local Bible Bowl was held on Sunday, February 22, 2009. The location was Grace Lutheran Church in Rochester. We studied the Gospel of Matthew. Rehoboth’s team will be made up of youth from 6th grade through 12th grade. The youth asked our congregation for their support in the form of developing questions based on the Gospel of Matthew. The Bible Bowl team also needed some volunteers to provide lunches for our team during the months of January and February. There was a luncheon sign-up sheet in the narthex. If you were interested in formulating questions or assisting the Bible Bowl team in any way, your help was greatly appreciated. The Bible Bowl team typically practices on Sundays following worship during the months of January and February. Our first practice was January 4th. Our Bible Bowl leader is Scott Shoup. On Sunday, February 22, thirteen of Rehoboth's youth entered Grace Lutheran Church with high hopes, tension and nervousness. Our prayer prior to the start was for humbleness, to open our hearts and minds to receive God's word and for all to enjoy the event. Rehoboth went head-to-head against: Christ, Baden; Grace, Rochester; St. Andrew, Moon and New Hope, Economy. We completed the first round one point behind, rallied in the second half and took the lead to win in the third round. They did it!
The questions were difficult this year, but our group prevailed. A woman from Grace in Rochester approached Coach Shoup to say that our group of kids were to be commended. She commented that our team was actually "quoting from the bible" not just giving one-word answers, which to her, meant that they truly studied the scripture.
Many thanks to the 35+ congregational members that came to cheer on the team. To those who took time to write questions for the students, prepared a luncheon and encouraged the group, THANK YOU. And also, to Coach Shoup and Coach Tide (Heidi Hartge) we say "thanks bunches"! Congratulations, we're so proud of you.
Our next competition was scheduled for Sunday, March 1 at 2:45 PM at New Hope, Economy. We competed against 3 other local winning teams. The competition proved to be tough and we came in third place. Congratuations to our Bible Bowl participants.
Our youth are victorious -- having read and studied the book of Matthew -- for that we are proud.
Bible Bowl 2008
Bible Bowl 2008 - Feb 17, 2008
Want to know which book was chosen for this year's Bible Bowl event? This year, it was the book of Revelation, which was a particularly difficult book to study. Twelve of our youth participated in this year's event and came in 2nd place! They were: Lisa, Sarah, Caitlin, TJ, Stephanie, Lizz, Lauren, Nathan, Donovan, Ashley, Amanda, and Julian. Bible Bowl was held at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Moon Township at 3:00pm. Congratulations to our youth who studied hard, and thanks to the supporters who came out to rally our youth, the sponsors, their leader, Scott Shoup, and those who provided the lunches during study time.
Bible Bowl 2007
Starting in January, Rehoboth's young adults between grades 6th through 12th will start to study and prepare for the ELCA Synod's annual Bible Bowl on February 25th. The selected book of the Bible is Genesis chapters 12 through 30. To assist our group of young theologians, members are encouraged to read through the book of Genesis and write down notes, questions, or points of interest for them to study. They will meet for several weeks for study time after worship on Sundays. After worship study time begins on January 13th and will continue every week until the competition in February. A lunch will be provided for the students. For further information, contact Jan Reese or Beth Berenbrok. This year's Bible Bowl was held on February 25th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wexford. Rehoboth's team worked hard and came in 5th place. The team would like to thank the congregation for their support. Special thanks to the families for the delicious lunches that they provided.
