May 2010

The school year is drawing to a close.  Our 4-year-old class will be busy during May finishing our alphabet books, and getting ready for graduation.  We will be making kites and working on our Mother’s Day projects for both age groups.

The AM 4-year-old class will graduate on Monday, May 24th at 7:00 PM.  The PM 4-year-old class will graduate on Wednesday, May 26th at 7:00 PM. 

The 3-year-old class will visit Bounce U for a year-end party on Tuesday, May 25th.

Apr 2010In the month of April, we will discuss Earth Day, Arbor Day, kites and the weather.  The three year olds will be  visited by Pittsburgh Zoomobile on April 6th.  We will find out how animals use their special sense to help them survive and compare their senses to our own.  Our four year olds will have a field trip on Thursday, April 15th to the Penn State, Beaver Campus, to see an adaptation of “The Frog Prince.”
Mar 2010In the month of March we will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and Lent.  We will discuss The Easter Story – from Good Friday through Easter.  We also practiced our readiness skills for kindergarten.  We will have a short Easter Program and Easter Party on March 30th and March 31st.
Feb 2010In the month of February we will discuss Ground Hog Day and President’s Day.  We will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a party on February 11th & 12th.  We also had a successful Hop-a-Thon for January.  In February our service project will be sending Valentine’s to the sick and shut-ins.  We will also discuss healthy eating habits.
Jan 2010

Happy New Year! 
In January we will discuss the New Year, the Epiphany, Martin Luther King Day, Winter and the Chinese New Year.

Registration for  the Fall of 2010 will be open to the public on January 6, 2010 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Rehoboth’s church hall.  Children must be 3 or 4 years old before September 1, 2010 and be toilet trained.  Registration fee is $30.00.

The Book Fair for Bright Beginnings will be January 11 – 15.  Rehoboth’s members may shop for books on Sunday, January 17th.  All books will be buy one get one free.  If you have questions, please call (724) 869-9299.

Dec 2009In December our themes will be animals that hibernate, Christmas and baby Jesus.  Both 3 year old and 4 year old classes will present a Christmas program on December 21st  and December 22nd  respectively.  The four year olds will take a field trip to Old Economy Village where they will learn how the 19th century celebrated Christmas.
Registration for Fall 2010 will be open to Rehoboth church members starting on December 14th  2009.  Registration will be open to the public starting in January 2010.  If you have any questions, feel free to call the preschool at 724-869-9299.
Nov 2009In November, we would like to welcome parents of Bright Beginnings preschoolers to an Open House on November 10th from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM.  Here are some exciting things we will discuss:  farm animals, Veterans Day Thanksgiving Day, turkey, pilgrims, and Indians.  We will have a Thanksgiving Feast at the end of the month.
Oct 2009In September we welcomed 62 preschoolers to Bright Beginnings.  Here are some of the exciting things going on for the month of October.  Our 4 year olds are taking a field to Yeck's Farm to visit a pumpkin patch.  We will also take the 3 year old class to the fire station.  Our class photos will be taken in October.  Both classes will celebrate Halloween with a program and a party.  For this month, we will be discussing autumn, pumpkins, fire safety, and Halloween safety.
Sep 2009On Sunday, August 23rd, Bright Beginnings Preschool introduced our new director to the congregation by hosting a coffee hour reception.

Cathy Long resides in Slippery Rock with her husband Jack Long II and their 13 year-old son, Jack Long III.  All are accompanied by their Jack Russell terriers, a stray dog that recently has given birth to 6 puppies, and 3 horses.  Their log cabin and trout filled lake sits on a 5 acre farm.

Cathy graduated from Geneva College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and has re-entered the work force after taking time off to raise Jack III.  Most recently, she was employed at the Goddard School in Cranberry. 

Cathy’s enthusiasm and excitement will be a great asset to Bright Beginnings Preschool.  We look forward to an exciting school year.

Bright Beginnings Pre-School is currently looking to fill a teacher’s assistant position. The hours will be between 15  - 24 per week.  If anyone is interesting in applying for this position, you may contact Heidi or Leslie for more info.


Bright Beginnings News 2008 - 2009

We are enjoying spring!  Our 3 year olds will visit Reilly’s Farm for a strawberry blossom tour in May 2009.  They enjoyed their Easter parties and we thank all the parents who volunteered to help.

Our 4 year olds recently visited kindergarten at Economy Elementary School.  In May we will continue to work on our alphabet books and our kindergarten readiness skills.  Graduation ceremonies will be held on May 18th & May 20th at 7:00 PM in Rehoboth’s sanctuary.  Please join us for the celebrations.

April 2009 Happy Easter!  Our 4 year-olds are doing their “good deeds” to plant flowers in God’s garden.  Our 3 year-olds are doing “good deeds’ to earn their wings from caterpillars to butterflies.  Our Easter programs will be on April 7th & 8th in the Sanctuary.  Please come enjoy our spring poems and songs.

Help us extend the joy of the Easter season by celebrating the Week of the Young Child.  Our preschoolers will sing during the Sunday service on April 19th in the Sanctuary.

Thank you to all the members of Rehoboth who have volunteered their time to do chapel for our pre-schoolers:  Donna DuPont, Heather Goncz, Lori Shoup and Dennis Whalen.  The children have enjoyed it so much.

Think Spring!  In March 2009 our preschoolers will start doing some spring things.  Our 3 year olds will decorate our room with yellow chicks and their service project will be  doing good deeds to earn their “wings” from caterpillars to butterflies. 

Our 4 year olds will add the letters P, Q, and R to their Alphabet Books.  Their service project will be doing good deeds to add petals to their flowers in God's Garden.  The 4 year olds will continue to work on their kindergarten readiness skills.

We will talk about healthy hearts in February 2008.  Our 3 year olds will have a visit from a health care professional who will talk about our hearts.  Our 3 year olds will get and give hugs for our “Hug Tree” as our service project.

Our 4 year olds will bring in Valentines for the shut-ins as their service project.  They will also talk about healthy hearts.

Both classes will celebrate Valentine’s Day and we will talk about how special we are to God and how much He loves us too.

Happy New Year!  In January 2008 our 4-year-olds will learn about their senses.  They will taste, touch and smell some interesting things.  Our 3-year-olds will learn about shapes, so you may hear them talking about Tommy Triangle or Sandy Square.  In January, progress reports will also go home with the children.

Registration for Fall 2009 will be open to the public on January 2 from 9:00 AM until 12 noon in Rehoboth’s church hall.  Children must be 3 or 4 years old before September 1, 2009 and be toilet trained.  Registration fee is $20.00.

The Book Fair for Bright Beginnings will be January 12 – 16.  Rehoboth’s members may shop for books on Sunday, January 18.  All books will be “buy one, get one free”.  If you have questions, please call (724) 869-9299.


In December 2008 we will anticipate Christ’s birth as we celebrate the beautiful Advent Season.

Our Christmas programs will be in Rehoboth’s sanctuary on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23 during the day.  Please come and enjoy our programs!

Registration for Fall 2009 for REHOBOTH MEMBERS (children who will be 3 before September 2009 and are toilet trained) will be December 15-19 from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and from 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM on Tuesday and Thursday.  If these hours are not convenient, please call 724-869-9299 and we will set an appointment to register.  Please bring your $20.00 registration fee and your child’s immunization records. 

Registration for general public is January 2, 2009 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon.


In November 2008 all our classes will learn about food and nutrition.  Our 3-year-olds will make applesauce and our 4-year-olds will make vegetable soup.  Both classes will make butter to share at our Thanksgiving Feasts.

We will learn about the first Thanksgiving.  Our preschoolers will learn about thanking God for our many blessings.  The 4-year-olds will continue to work on their alphabet books and our 3-year-olds will continue to work on their social skills.

In October 2008 we will learn about all kinds of safety at Bright Beginnings. Our 3-year-olds will visit Economy Volunteer Fire Department and the fire truck will visit our preschool for the 4-year-olds. We will also talk about traffic safety and Halloween safety. Our Halloween programs will be October 30 & 31 in the sanctuary. Please come and join us to enjoy some cute costumes and seasonal songs. September 2008 - It’s time for back to school! Bright Beginnings will hold orientation for our 3-year-olds and their parents on Thursday, September 4. Orientation for our 4-year-olds and their parents will be on Friday, September 5. Classes begin on Monday, September 8.

Bright Beginnings News 2007 - 2008

June 2008 - Bright Beginnings has completed their 16th year here at Rehoboth. We had a total of 42 children graduate in two evening ceremonies on May 19 & 21. Our 3-year-olds enjoyed a year-end celebration at My Gym in Cranberry on May 20.

We sadly say goodbye to Mrs. Kim Stuebgen who is leaving our staff after three years to continue her education at Slippery Rock University. We are currently accepting resume’s in preparation of hiring a new staff member this summer. Please send resume’s to:

May 2008 will be a busy month at Bright Beginnings. Our 4-year-olds will continue to work on kindergarten readiness skills and will possibly visit kindergarten at Economy Elementary School. Our graduation ceremonies will be on May 19 & 21 in Rehoboth’s sanctuary at 7:00 PM each night. Please come and share the festivities with us.

Our 3-year olds will complete their Number Books. They will enjoy a field trip to Reilly’s Farm for a strawberry blossom tour on May 1. Their year-end celebration will be at My Gym in Cranberry.

April 2008 will be a busy month for Bright Beginnings. Both our 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds will hear the creation story from the Bible. We will talk about caring for God’s beautiful world as Earth Day approaches on April 22.

Ventriloquist, Roseann Lederer will present a program on transportation for the 3-year-olds. Our 4-year-olds will see a stage play, “The Bremen Town Musicians” at Penn State, Beaver. Both classes will have environmental education speakers as part of an Earth Day observance.

Our students are growing and maturing every day. We continue to prepare our 4-year-olds for kindergarten. Many of them have already turned 5 and have registered for kindergarten for fall 2008.

In February 2008 we will learn about healthy hearts. We plan to have a health care professional visit our classes this month for this lesson.

We will also celebrate Valentine’s Day in February. Our 4-year-olds will bring in Valentines for local shut-ins as their service project. Our 3-year-olds will share hugs at home and bring them in to hang on our Hug Tree. Both classes will enjoy parties for Valentine’s Day.

Happy New Year! Bright Beginnings is having a Hop-a-Thon to collect funds for Muscular Dystrophy in January 2008. If you would like to donate, please put your contributions in Bright Beginnings mailbox. We have collected approximately $2,000.00 every year!

Our 4-year-olds will be learning about their senses in January. They will be tasting, touching and smelling some interesting things! Our 3-year-olds will be reviewing shapes. All classes will receive progress reports at the end of January.

Registration for Fall 2008 will begin on Wednesday, January 2. If your child will be 3 or 4 years old BEFORE September 1 and is toilet trained, please call Mrs. Woodlling at (724) 869-9299 for more information.


Bright Beginnings celebrates Advent and Christmas in December 2007. Our 4-year-olds will enjoy a field trip to Old Economy Village on December 5. We will learn about a colonial Christmas and meet Belschnickle, a German Santa’s helper. In school, the children will make a manger scene to take home and celebrate Jesus’ birthday with a pageant and party on December 21.

Our 3-year-olds will be busy making Christmas crafts in December. The afternoon class will present a program for 55+ on December 13. Their pageant and party will be December 20.

Registration for Fall 2008 for Rehoboth members, who are 3 or 4 years old before September 1, will be the week of December 17 – 21. You may register between 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM daily. If these hours are not convenient, please call Mrs. Woodling at 724-869-9299 for an appointment.

Fall is here and the students are getting ready for October 2007 and cooler weather. October promises to be busy. Our 4-year-olds will be visiting Yeck’s Pumpkin Farm and celebrating Halloween while learning about safety.

The 3-year-olds will also be learning about fire safety, Halloween safety and traffic safety.

Everyone will be making get-well cards for the shut-ins. If you know of someone who would like to receive a card, please leave their name and address on the desk in the Bright Beginnings classroom.

The September project for the Fall Harvest was a success. Our preschool families donated paper products & canned goods and were very generous.

Summer has gone by quickly and it is almost time to begin pre-school again!

Orientations for the 3-year-olds are Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM. Orientations for the 4-year-olds are Friday, September 7 at 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM. These orientations will last approximately one hour. Parents and children are both asked to stay. School officially begins on September 10.

We look forward to a school year filled with learning, fun, and the blessings of God. Our pre-schoolers will be learning colors, shapes, letters and numbers. We will also work on socialization skills, physical fitness and Bible stories.
